Anand Yang is Professor of History at the University of Washington, with a joint appointment in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. A leading historian of South Asia, his research spans agrarian and subaltern history, law and criminality under colonial rule, and the global connections of the Indian subcontinent. His books include The Limited Raj: Agrarian Relations in Colonial India (UC Press, 1989), Bazaar India: Markets, Society, and the Colonial State in Bihar (UC Press, 1999), and Empire of Convicts: Indian Penal Labor in Colonial Southeast Asia (UC Press, 2021).
